Trust & safety

Community guidelines

HandyHome works when both sides can trust each other. These are the rules for everyone who posts, bids or hires here.

Everyone

  • Be honest about who you are and what you’re offering or asking for.
  • Treat people with respect. No harassment, threats or discrimination of any kind.
  • Keep job conversations on HandyHome messages so there’s a record if something goes wrong.
  • Don’t post anything illegal, or ask for or offer illegal work.

Homeowners

  • Describe the job accurately, including anything a contractor would need to know to price it.
  • Respond to bids you’re considering, and decline the ones you’re not.
  • Pay the agreed amount when the agreed work is done.
  • Leave reviews that reflect what actually happened.

Contractors

  • Keep your profile accurate: trades, service area, business details and any license or insurance you list.
  • Bid only on work you can do, and say clearly what your price includes.
  • Show up when you say you will. If plans change, tell the homeowner right away.
  • Pull any permits the work legally requires.

Reviews

Reviews must come from real completed jobs. Paying for reviews, trading them, or leaving one to retaliate isn’t allowed and will be removed.

Safety tips

  • Agree on price, scope and timing in writing before work starts. Your messages count.
  • For larger jobs, avoid paying everything up front. Agree on a deposit and pay the rest on completion.
  • If a job needs a licensed or insured contractor, ask for proof before hiring. HandyCheck is not a license check.
  • If you ever feel unsafe, leave and call 911.

When rules are broken

We review every report by hand. Depending on what happened we may warn, suspend or remove an account. To report a person or a job, see Report a problem.
